The Problem

Kids across the country are getting busted for operating lemonade stands without a permit.

May 29, 2018 – Denver police shut down a lemonade stand that two young children were running to raise money to help a 5-year-old Indonesian child.

June 8, 2015 – The Chief of Police in little Overton, Texas, informed 7- and 8-year-old sisters that their lemonade stand violated the town’s ordinances unless they obtained a $150 “peddler’s permit.”

We're launching Legal-Ade, a crack team ready to straighten out lemonade stands permits and fines. If a lemonade stand gets shut down or ticketed by city officials for not having proper permits or licenses, we'll reimburse the kid or their family up to $300.

It is a lemonade stand but they also have a permit that they are required to get. We have to follow by the state health guidelines. They have to have a permit if they're going to do the lemonade stands.

Fostering the entrepreneurial spirit is something that we can all get behind, especially when it’s for a good cause.  Unfortunately, this past weekend, officers received several complaints from permitted vendors about a stand which lacked a permit, but was set up at the same event. When officers receive a complaint, we have an obligation to act.
