13140 Stop CA's Unfair Solar Tax on Low-Income Housing Active State Sacramento, CA, USA Sacramento Sacramento County CA US Requiring solar panels on all new housing is a highly inefficient way to expand solar energy. University of California, Berkeley economist Severin Borenstein told the commission that he and the vast majority of energy economists "believe that residential rooftop solar is a much more expensive way to move towards renewable energy than larger solar and wind installations."

No kidding. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory figures that on a kilowatt-hour basis, electricity from home solar panels costs 2 1/2 times more than electricity from large solar facilities operated by utilities.

The California approach brings to mind Mao Zedong's call in the 1950s for Chinese peasants to build steel furnaces in their backyards. Many vital tasks are done best on a huge scale, and generating electricity is one of them.

Another drawback is that it will aggravate the state's most notorious problem—astronomical housing costs. The median home price is now $524,000, in large part because of regulations that make every attem

742182 Rampant Misconduct In Orange County Criminal Justice System Active Local Orange County, CA, USA Orange County CA US A civil rights group has accused Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and District Attorney Tony Rackauckas of running a longstanding, secret and illegal jail informant program that has violated the rights of countless defendants for over 30 years, according to a bombshell lawsuit filed Wednesday.

The complaint, filed in Orange County Superior Court by the American Civil Liberties Union along with the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, bolsters the allegations of Assistant Public Defender Scott Sanders that the county was running an expansive jailhouse informant program. The corruption scandal has rocked the county’s criminal justice system for more than four years and has led to the unraveling of nearly 20 high-profile cases and threatens to upend still more.

301184 Tustin Residents Demand a Functioning Legal Marketplace Active Local Tustin, CA, USA Tustin Orange County CA US The city of Tustin in Orange County was recently scored .5 / 100 in terms of friendliness for cannabis businesses. In a city of 79,396 that voted Yes on Prop. by 64: 53% its time to ask the OC Board of Supervisors and the Tustin City Council to allow for multiple types of cannabis businesses. As pointed out in a recent, licensed cannabis businesses have the ability to turn around cities in desperate need of jobs, tax revenue and business development. Building a stronger economy means local officials must establish an effective policy that brings well-regulated and licensed operators to their city.

The cost of a police raid on an unlicensed cannabis business ranges from $50,000 to $100,000. On top of that, most businesses reopen quickly anyway. The result is cities losing out on tax revenue while wasting millions of taxpayers’ dollars on police enforcement that could be better used elsewhere.

One thing little mentioned is the Drug War's disproportionate effect on continuing a steady supply of criminals and informants. With at least legalized marijuana, many non-violent offenders wouldn't be radicalized by a failed prison system into further criminality. Repeal marijuana and other common street drugs and we can rehabilitate users like we do with other addicts.
